Bargaining Chip

Priceless

Listen to a Southern-Cut-7987 Reading

(Door opens and shuts, ominous footsteps, sounds of muffled struggle from y/n as footsteps come closer)

So this is The Fiancee, huh? Well, ex-fiancee, I suppose. Unless you think you two can still work it out after he sold you to pay off his gambling debts? I would think it’d take either a saintly act of forgiveness on your part or an astronomical amount of couple’s therapy. Hope you didn’t put a deposit down on the wedding venue yet—

What was that? Oh, here, let me help you with that gag. My men tell me you didn’t give them much choice, when they… escorted you here. Not that anyone — not your neighbors, not even the cops — would have helped you, no matter how much you screamed—

Why? Because I don’t just own this casino; I own this whole goddamned city and no one gets between me and what’s mine—

You’re not mine? Oh, my adorably confused Collateral, I beg to differ. Like I said, you’ve been bought and paid for. Your once-was hubby-to-be wanted to wipe his debt clean and even a down-on-his-luck loser like him knew what his only possession of value was—

Yes, that’s right, Bargaining Chip. You. Now get up; I want to inspect the merchandise—

Untie you? Why would I do that? It’s just your wrists that are tied, not your ankles. So. Get. Up. (approving sound) That’s a good girl. Now turn around for me. (assessing sounds) You’ve got decent tits, but that ass… (footsteps) Yes, this ass is what I paid for—

Don’t touch you? (chuckles) I don’t think you understand what’s happening, Pretty Pawn. This ass (y/n gasp) belongs to me. This ass cost me more money than you make in a year. In ten years. And, if there’s one thing you should know about me, it’s that I’m a man who always gets what he pays for. The only question is how. Do I put you up for sale, let clients bid on who gets to take you home with them? Or maybe I just loan you out by the hour, to get a better return on investment? I could even offer a discounted group rate? What do you think?

(shushes) No, you’re right. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. I haven’t even gotten a good look at you yet. Take off your pants. (y/n whimper) Do it or I’ll do it for you and I can promise you, Possession, if I do, you won’t like it. (y/n’s clothes rustling) Good choice. Now the shirt—

What was that? You can’t take it off with your hands tied? Then lift it. Higher. I said higher. I want to see— Yes, like that. Is this what you didn’t want me to see? That you’re not wearing a bra today? Didn’t want to show me those pretty, little nipples? Didn’t want me to see them perk up like perfect tiny pebbles just for me. The room is warm enough, so I know your nipples aren’t getting hard due to the cold. Tell me, Little Treasure, are you scared right now? Or just excited?

…Don’t want to answer? I could always find out for myself, couldn’t I. (footsteps, tsk) Look at these panties. I’ll bet they come in a pack of eight at your local drug store. Was your pathetic excuse for a fiancee a fool or just too cheap to buy you nice things? Curves like these (y/n struggle sounds) were made for silk and lace, not polyester cotton. Their only redeeming factor is (ripping sound) these panties were made to be ruined. (y/n gasp, tumble)

Careful, you almost tripped. Color? (soft chuckle) Not of the panties, Darling. Color. …Green? You sure? …Okay. Then get on your knees and bend over the chair. More. Get that ass in the air. (smack) Higher. Good. Now spread your legs. (smack) More. Show me what’s fucking mine. That’s a good girl. A good, dirty, little girl. Look how wet you are—

No? Don’t lie to me; I can see it from here. Smell it from here. Don’t believe me? Then get your hands between your legs and see for yourself what a mess you're making. Do it. Yeah, spread that pussy for me. Open those wet lips wide for me, my slutty fucking Prize, drip all over those shaky little fingers, and keep pretending that you’re scared. Quivering in fear and not goddamned need. (scoff) Tell yourself whatever you need to, Baby, but we both know you like the idea of being my property. My whore. Mine to do whatever I want. This wet, welcoming cunt is going to take whatever I give it, isn’t it? My fingers. My mouth. My dick. A whole casino full of cock—

No? You’re not here on your fucking knees getting hot off the thought of a line of guys with their dicks out, ready to drown you in come? (laugh, smack) Liar. Look at those fingers twitch. Want to rub that swollen clit? Fill that empty pussy with something thick and thrusting? Don’t you worry, Treasure Chest, I’ll fill you up soon enough. Oh, you didn’t think I was going to put you out on the show floor without taking a test drive first, did you? (tsk, the sound of belt buckle & zipper being undone) Show me exactly how much this cunt is worth.

(moan) Fuck. You’re fucking drenched; my cock is just sliding right inside you. Look at you taking every inch like you can’t get enough. I’ve barely even touched you and you’re this wet. Is this how badly you need dick? Just a horny hole hungry to be filled, aren’t you?

Or is it my dick you need? Is that why your pussy is squeezing me so tight? Like you don’t ever want to let me go. Is that why you’re bucking those hips? Pushing this lush ass up against me? Making all those greedy little sounds? It’s okay, Baby. You’re not gagged anymore. Unlike my men, I want you to fucking scream. Scream for me, Darling, so loud the whole casino hears you. Scream while you come on my cock. And, if you’re good, when I’m done, I’ll clean up our come with my tongue.

(moan) Fuck! You feel too good. Fuck sharing you. No one else is going to get the chance to fucking touch you; I’m going to keep you on my cock day and night doing nothing but this. Nothing but fucking milking my dick with this perfect fucking pussy. I’m going to fill you up so good, you’re going to spend the rest of your life leaking my come. Rub your needy, little clit while I play with these nipples and let me feel this cunt clench. I want to feel my pussy come for me. Yes, that’s it. Get yourself good and close. (chuckle) I can feel your knees quaking. Your whole body. Don’t worry, Sweet Treasure, I’ve got you. Let yourself go. Yes. Just like that. (grunt) Fuck. (groan) That’s my good girl. (grunt) Coming for me so good. Fuck. You’re making me— (moan)  It’s like you’re trying to drain me dry.

(groan, weak chuckle) Shit. Hold on. Let me take off these pants. We’re getting come all over them— (laugh) Don’t fucking laugh; this is my good suit. (laugh) Oh, you’ll help me clean it later. After? After what? …Oh, yeah, I guess I did make promises, didn’t I? And I am a man who gets his money’s worth, right? …What was that? (laugh) Did you work off your fiancee’s debt? (chuckle) Well, adding into account how much it’s going to cost to dry clean this suit in time for the rehearsal dinner with our families, I think we’ve got a ways to go before we’re debt-free, my wicked Wife-To-Be. That amount of money, it could take years — decades even — to pay off. Might even take the rest of our lives. Don’t worry, I know you’re good for it.

Behind Enemy Lines

You Won't Look At Me. And It's Pissing Me Off

Listen to a Southern-Cut-7987 Reading

You won’t look at me.

And it’s fucking pissing me off.

You’ve been distant all day. Not talking. Not moving. Like your goddamned soul somehow slipped from your body while no one was watching.

But I’m watching. And I’m fucking done with it.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” I have to know. You need to answer me. But you don’t. You just shrug. Just this half-assed, mindless lift of your shoulders. That’s not a fucking answer! “Are you mad at me or something?” I don’t think I’ve done anything wrong, but damned if you’re not making me feel like I have.

“It’s not you.” Your voice is dim. Dull. A pale imitation of you. “It’s nothing.”

Clearly, the fuck it’s not! “If you’re angry, I’d rather just discuss it. I can’t fix what I don’t know is broken.” We’ve talked about this before. You know it drives me crazy. So goddamn stop.

You make this weird sound. So small I almost didn’t hear it.

“Hey,” I say, lifting your chin even as you pointedly avoid my gaze, “are— Are you crying?” Fuck. I can see wetness gathering at the corners of your eyes, like dew weighing down your lashes. “Hey, come here.” I gather you close to me, burying your face in my neck. I hold you there. Tight. Shielding you as I feel your small body practically vibrate with tensely gripped emotions. “It’s okay. You can cry, sweetheart.” Your head shakes slightly, just a barely noticeable, stilted shift against my shoulder, like you’re afraid the tiniest wrong movement will shatter your fiercely held control.

Fuck this. I pull you onto my lap as I sit down in a chair, wrapping you fully around myself, until no part of you isn’t touching a part of me. “You can let it out, baby. It’s all right. I’ve got you; I won’t let you go.”

It starts as just a hiccup. A rough, choked swallow. Right before your stiff body collapses boneslessly against mine as sobs pour out of you and into my shirt. It breaks me. Cooing at you in a way I fucking pray you find comforting, I rock you soothingly, whispering God-only-knows-what in a desperate attempt to fix what feels so broken. I hold you through it, do my best to hold you together as you fall apart in my arms.

It’s not until your tears quiet and your body lays limp against mine that I finally feel the ache in my chest relax. “Feel better?” I ask softly into your ear. I smile this time as you give the briefest nod into the crook of my neck. “Good.” I rub your back. “Can you give me a smile?” I feel your wet lips wobble weakly against my skin. I pat you gently. “That’s okay. Don’t force it; it’ll come.” And it will. You will feel joy again. I’ll make sure of it.

I let you pull yourself up as you furiously wipe the tears from your face like evidence to a crime. “I’m sorry,” you murmur, your cheeks flushing a shameful pink, “I didn’t mean to dump all that on you.”

I reach up and softly brush my thumb against the moisture still threatening to fall. “You didn’t dump anything on me,” I tell you firmly. “You let me share the burden. I’m glad.” It’d been too much for you to carry on your own; of course, I want to help you lift it. That’s what I’m here for. “You know, as much as I love your smile, and as strange as it may sound, I think I’d rather see your tears than have you shut down like that.” Paralyzed by your pain. “It scared me. Not knowing what was happening in here,” I say as I touch your temple. You’re usually all smiles and sunshine; to have that all replaced by… nothing. It was terrifying. Like a frigid chill racking my soul.

Your gaze drifts away from mine again in a quiet evasion. “Sometimes it feels safer behind the walls.”

Yeah, I understand that. They’re the emotional barricade you bury yourself in, when nothing outside it feels right anymore. But, having more than my own share of experiences behind the enemy lines that can be my own mind at times, I wonder how safe it truly is inside those carefully constructed walls though. “I know.” They feel like protection, a barrier between the tenderest parts of you and the world that can’t be trusted with them. “But you don’t need them with me, right?” You never will; I will fucking see to it. I can be stronger than your walls. For you, I will be. I grip your chin and hold it until you look at me again. I need you to hear me when I say this. “When you’re with me, all you need is you.” You are enough. More than.

Pervertable

PERVERTABLE

God, the last half of her shift was going by at a painfully slow pace!

Thirty minutes more, Dana Wainsfield told herself as she glared at the clock on the cash register screen. Just half an hour more. In half an hour, she could take off her name tag — “Welcome to Catered Cook; My Name is Dana” — and her smock — “Catering to Your Home Cooking Needs!” — and go home.

Dana, like the vast amount of low-wage workers, didn’t much like her job. She had bigger dreams than retail. Unlike the vast amount of fake bakers and culinary hobbyists that trolled her store, Dana was a chef.

Well, aspiring, really.

She’d done the classes. Had aced school. But, the problem was, no one was hiring right now. Not out-of-work, inexperienced gastronomical snobs anyway.

Which was fine, she supposed. What she really wanted to do was write. Cookbooks, that is. She was the next Julia Powell, she knew it.

Her boyfriend, an odd acquisition she’d found working at the bookstore on the first level while scoffing at the “15-minute dinner” books, thought so too. With a metabolism that kept him lanky no matter what he ate, he gobbled up her dishes with a gusto that she found incredibly attractive. He had an abundance of good taste and a good appetite, two qualities she sought the way other girls did muscles or money.

The problem wasn’t her cooking. She had books full of recipes, all tested and perfected by her refined taste.

Publishing, that was her problem.

It seemed publishers weren’t looking for no-name, out-of-work culinary snobs either. Dana sighed and slumped over to lean against the counter’s glass case. Which was why she was here waiting for thirty more miserable minutes to pass.

Twiddling her fingers against the glass to whatever Muzak was playing over the store’s speakers, Dana looked up when she heard giggling in the front corner of the store.

Used to high school shoplifters who pathologically thought it was cool to stuff peelers and paring knives and potholders shaped like kittens into their pockets, Dana was surprised to see a couple — somewhere in their early thirties — fighting a fit of laughter over bakeware.

She peered as the blond man, a slicked-back studious sort in a sweater vest and jeans, picked up a classic scraper with a long, cherry red handle and a gleaming white rubber head. He waved it oddly, as if testing the weight, the minuscule heft, of it. He shrugged before handing it over to her.

Dana’s brow shot up as the black woman, a mod model type wrapped in quirky vintage classics, gripped the handle hard before thwacking it hard in her hand, the rubber making a solid thud against her palm. She giggled. He giggled.

Dana shook her head, confused.

Then the woman did something odd and unusual, something Dana had never seen anyone ever do in the year and a half she’d been working at Catered Cook.

The woman twirled her long, perfectly manicured finger, an impish grin spreading across her face.

The man rolled his eyes and shook his head.

Dana felt an unease when the woman pressed her hands together, still clutching the scraper, to beg. “Please,” she heard the woman’s deep, timbric voice plead. “Pretty please with a ripe, unpopped cherry on top.”

The man sighed and quickly checked around. Dana, unthinking, squeezed herself against the wall, hoping she was well-hidden by the shelved aisles between them, her heart in her throat, pounding a staccato cadence that she couldn’t quite keep up with.

“Fine,” she heard the man acquiesce, pointing a warning finger at the grinning woman. “Once.”

“Thank you!” She jumped and gave an excited, little yip. “Now...” She made the twirling motion again.

The man heaved another heavy sigh and turned, leaning against one of the shelves heavily laden with mixing bowls and rolling pins. Bent slightly forward with his back to her, he crossed his arms in front of him, looking very put out.

Still gleeful, despite her companion’s dour acceptance, the woman did the same weird waving he had. Then with a graceful dance step, she swung her hand back like a tennis player and smacked him with it.

On the butt.

The blow made just a tiny, muted thunk — really just a sound too small for all that effort — but it resonated impossibly loud in Dana’s head.

Dana just blinked, balked, not believing that she was seeing this. People were going to touch food with those, for God’s sake!

She ought to have stopped them. Asked them to leave or called security to escort them out. Instead, she watched as the man and the woman both shrugged, chuckled, and set the shiny, red scraper back in the bucket with all the others.

The woman, with wide, wondrous eyes, studied the store’s wares like a child would a candy store. Squealing, she lifted a jumbo slotted spatula, meant for turning delicate dishes like pancakes or fish. Fingering the three open lines running down the thin, wide head reverently, her smile turned thoughtful with just a pinch of malice.

Hiding the tool behind her back, she snuck up on the man, her faux calf-skin boots silent on the store’s floor. As her companion sorted through the assorted serving spoons, forks, and ladles, the woman stealthily bent back the turner’s head — the thin metal neck tense as it stretched — before she let it snap like a shot against his shoulder.

The man yelped and rubbed the stinging skin, turning to glare accusingly at her. With a vicious smirk of his own, he snatched up two large bamboo serving spoons, lightweight but durable, resistant against staining, warping, and cracking. With one in each hand, he wielded them like weapons, twirling in graceful arcs like some kind of Williams-Sonoma ninja.

They sparred for a bit, laughingly smacking whatever bit of each other they could reach.

But then the man stopped, his hands and weapons dropping, suddenly slack.

The woman turned, curious when the man strode forward past her, shoving the spoons at her absentmindedly. As if a hallelujah chorus was playing while he walked, he stopped, awed, in front of the new holiday display featuring the matching three-piece bamboo cutting board set.

Reaching out, he grabbed the small, rectangular cheese board by the handy, lightweight handle, swinging it slowly like a Ping-Pong player in a pool of water. Then, with a bit more excitement, he did the same with the medium-sized bread board and then finally the large, ten-by-fifteen inch cutting board, hefting the light, but awkwardly weighted tool in one hand.

The tall, sweater-vested man turned, the boards all clutched tight to his chest, looking like a ten-year-old in a toy store a week before Christmas. He looked at the woman, his mouth set in a silly, simply charming pout and his eyes shining with want.

The woman, who’d cleverly snatched a store basket, held it out for him with an amused, maternal nod, welcoming the set along with the spatula and spoons.

With an absolutely evil grin, the woman slung the basket over her elbow and reached for the set of decorative wine bottle stoppers.

Dana had always thought they looked like cork-bottomed bishops that belonged more on a chessboard than a wine bottle, but apparently the woman saw something entirely different as she fingered the tapered stopper, running her fingers up and down its smooth, rounded curves and wiggled her eyebrows suggestively at him.

The man paled and froze, horrified, before he backed away shaking his head determinedly.

The woman, undaunted, followed wagging the palm-sized piece at him tauntingly.

Dana fought a giggle of her own while the woman in chunky, four-inch heels chased the indignant man through the aisles.

Reaching the grill section, the man grabbed the black silicone handle of a chrome meat lifter, wielding the short, squat pitchfork with a devilish gleam of revenge that matched the glint the overhead lights cast off the lifter’s long, sharp, near-indestructible prongs.

With a shocked squeak, the woman stopped suddenly, the now forgotten stopper falling from her hand. She reached out, grabbing her own tool, a pair of meat handlers that she slipped on her knuckles like claws. Growling at him with a playful swipe, she brandished them like a comic book hero or a horror film monster.

The man turned to run again until he noticed that the woman was more intrigued by the handlers themselves — the design, the shape, the smooth, slightly sharp feel of them — than she was in chasing or dueling him.

He watched as she ran the claws, blunted but hard, along the bare length of her arms. His gray eyes widened when he caught the shiver that slid slick down her spine.

Grabbing his own pair, he fit his large hands in the handles, gripping them in his fists before running them teasingly along her shoulders and back, eliciting a throaty chuckle from her as she arched her back like a cat into the tool’s touch.

With a satisfied grin, he pulled the handlers off and slid them into the basket. Smirking back at him, she slipped her own pair with their other purchases too.

The couple giggled and made their way down the food aisles, picking up jars of pickled vegetables and jams and studying bags of gourmet cookies and all-natural crisps.

The woman stopped in front of the tasting table, sniffing the ramekins of fragrantly flavored olive oils. Shrugging, she dipped a strip of torn French bread into a dish before popping it into her mouth. She perked up and grinned.

Dana understood why. The rosemary lemon flavored olive oil featured today was bright and fresh, definitely one of Dana’s favorites. In charge of which products made it to the table and which didn’t, Dana eagerly watched the woman sample and savor each ramekin. Dana could tell from the scrunch of her face that the woman didn’t seem to like the smoky heat of the roasted pepper oil, much preferring the zing of the ginger-infused one. She lingered on the lavender, cocking her head to the side and smacking her mouth as she tried to decide how she felt about it. Dana felt it unfair that she couldn’t drizzle it over a dish of vanilla ice cream for the woman so she could get a feel for its full effect.

The man peered over the woman’s shoulder, the mascarpone of his skin covering the rich pecan-glaze of hers. Dana watched her slip a piece of lavender-oil soaked bread into his shallot-shaded mouth. He closed his eyes and licked his lips. Dana could practically taste the bread’s decadent, floral flavor on her tongue. She imagined the scent surrounding them, reminiscent of lavish parties and rich feasts.

She fed him another piece of bread, the oil dribbling down her knuckles. Grabbing her hand, he slicked his tongue over her finger. Even from her hiding spot, Dana could see heat bloom in both their eyes. The woman lifted her head and pressed her mouth to his, tasting the treat on both their tongues.

Dana should walk away. Turn around. Close her eyes. But she couldn’t. So caught up in the fantasy of scent, taste, and touch she knew they were experiencing, Dana wanted her piece of it too. She wanted to feel the soft insides of the bread, so full and heavy with oil, on her tongue. Wanted that rough crust to bite the roof of her mouth as flavor bloomed along her taste buds.

She was so lost in the flood of imagined sensations that she wasn’t even shocked — in her mind, she encouraged — when the woman first looked one way and then the other, making sure the store was empty, before taking a bit of soaked bread and painting her palm with the lavender oil. Dana licked her lips at the sheen left on the woman’s fingers that shimmered as she studied it under the store’s florescent lights.

Dana knew it was coming, but still her breath caught when the woman pressed herself against the man’s back and dipped her hand beneath the waistband of his jeans. She watched the man’s gray eyes glaze over and his standing body almost sink into her touch. His head fell back onto the strong shelf of her shoulder as she stroked his length. Dana could see his chest rise and fall in heavy breaths, inhaling the oil’s luxurious scent.

But then he stopped her. Wrapping his hand around the woman’s forearm, he pulled her hand from his pants, his erection pressing insistent against his zipper.

His eyes never left hers as he licked her palm, his tongue a strong, wet stroke on her skin. His hand slid up her arm to twist his fingers with hers, coating his own hand with the oil still there.

In a swift, graceful sweep, he spun her into his arms, reversing their positions, so she stood nestled against his chest. Dana muffled a gasp behind her hand as his snuck up her snug skirt. The woman bit her lip when he began to stroke her between her thighs, as if that clench of teeth and lips were the only thing keeping her quiet.

Dana imagined the man making sweet circles over the woman’s clit, the oil warming with kinetic heat. The woman would be wet, the earthy scent of her arousal mixing with the nuttiness of the oil and the sweet smell of lavender. The man’s nostrils flared as if he couldn’t get enough of that intoxicating scent. He wrapped his arm around her tight as her body tensed against his. She panted behind bitten lips while the moment built stronger, headier, in the suddenly small store.

Then, with a sharp gasp, the woman came, gripping the man’s knee and the tasting table, trying to steady herself as the tiny wooden table wobbled beneath her weight. The ceramic ramekins clinked softly, adding a quiet rhythm, while they all caught their breath.

For a moment, Dana wondered what someone else would think, if they knew this had happened. That she’d just stood there and watched a couple… have sex — was that even what they’d done? — in her store. What would her coworkers say? Her manager?

Her boyfriend.

With a wicked grin, the man squeezed the woman before letting her go. He reached into his back pocket and pulled out a hankie, wiping his hands on it before handing it to the woman.

As she cleaned up too, he picked up one of the bottles of lavender olive oil from the shelf and put it into the already full basket. The woman tucked his hankie back into his pocket, smirkingly squeezing his ass, before adding a bottle of ginger oil to their collection as well.

With a slightly panicked thrill, Dana saw them head toward the counter. Quickly, she slipped in through the employee door into the back office, her heart pounding as she wondered how she could possibly look the couple in the face — much less ring up their order — after all that.

But she was the only associate on duty, so when she heard their basket, full and heavy, plunk on the glass countertop, she sighed and resignedly pushed through the door. She plastered a friendly, Catered Cook smile on her face. “Did you find everything all right?”

The couple smiled and gave her a knowing look. With a little laugh, the woman purred, “Absolutely.”

Feeling a fierce blush flush her cheeks hot, Dana began to scan their items, swiftly transferring their purchases from the basket to a sturdy, embossed bag.

Trying to sound as casual as possible, she told them their total and took the shiny, silver credit card the woman handed over. Dana rung them up, only belatedly noticing that she’d not only just made and far surpassed her shift’s revenue goal, but that she’d stayed a full fifteen minutes past her shift’s end.

Handing them their things with a robotic thanks, Dana stood in front of the counter and watched the couple link arms and walk out of the store, eager to test out their new tools. She stood there long after they’d left the store, the door’s electronic bell tinkling tinnily. Long after they’d turned the corner past swiftly closing stores and out of sight, she just stood there blinking, replaying the last half hour.

Stiltedly, she started toward the front doors to lock them and pull down the gate. That done, absently, she walked back, passing by the bakeware, even though it was the roundabout way back to the cashier’s counter.

Pausing in front of the forks and spoons and scrapers and spatulas, she reached out haltingly, her hand hovering over the buckets for a hesitant moment. Taking a breath, she picked up the same rubber spatula the couple had first tested out.

She gave it a wave, feeling its weight differently, as if for the first time. Slightly off-balanced, it cut through the air easily with a light whoosh.

She thought of her boyfriend, the odd bookstore find. She thought about his long, lanky limbs and the way he bent low at the waist to reach for books as he stacked. Curling her fingers around the top of the wide head, she thought about his gusto and his abundant appetite.

She bent it back, feeling the taut tension along the tool’s long neck.

At the sound of the cleaning crew’s vacuums rev, she jumped and let go.

Breathing heavily, she felt the plastic handle reverberate in her grip, the shudder traveling through her hand, up her arm as it shot through to her spine.

She looked around — her head whipping one way and then the other — before she tucked the tool into her smock pocket and headed back to the cash register.

I’ll purchase it — and maybe another bottle of lavender olive oil — before I shut down the register for the night, she decided.

After all, she could always find a use for more kitchen toys and she didn’t use her associate’s discount near enough.

See You As You Are

The Roles We Play
A Donovan's Door Collection

Feeling flush with accomplishment and the alcohol’s warm, soothing effect, Hayato mixed himself a little something. See, he thought as he took another deep and satisfied sip, this socializing thing wasn’t all that hard. He didn’t need Peter to have a good time. He’d done just fine on his own.

He turned, when he felt a tap on his shoulder, just in time to avoid the crowd of conga-ing costumers gyrating to some oddly mixed song that sounded strangely like French reggae. Stumbling a bit as a few of the line’s more enthusiastic — if not most coordinated — members bumped into him, Hayato felt a pair of hands cup his, steadying him and his now sloshing glass.

“Careful.”

He secured his grip on his glass as he looked up to see the costumed Zatanna in front of him, her blue eyes smiling — maybe even laughing — at him. The curve of her darkly painted lips seemed somewhere between a smirk and an invitation. Hayato pondered which it could be even as his gaze slipped south, idly tracing the deep vee of her pearl white vest that — while not exactly canon-accurate — lay tantalizingly tight over black lace-covered breasts.

“Mix me a potion?” she asked, calling his gaze back up to her grinning face.

“Sorry,” he mumbled over the loud, culturally eclectic music, blushing at how he’d been caught ogling, as he set his glass aside and wiped his wet hand against his jeans. Maybe that was enough intoxication tonight.

She just continued smiling, seeming oddly and mysteriously omniscient. “Make me a drink?”

“Uh, sure,” he said, flustered by that gaze. Not knowing what else to do, he turned to start mixing again. His neck prickled as he felt her watch him, her gaze assessing while he grabbed and combined this and that. At first, he thought that she was judging the drink but, the more he mixed, he didn’t think so.

She was watching him. Not his hands, as the others had, trying to figure out formulas and recipes. She was watching him. The whole of him. And waiting. For something. Something Hayato couldn’t even begin to guess at.

It was as if she knew him. As if, with so much familiarity from her, he really ought to know her.

But he didn’t think he did.

He was sure he would remember a girl like her. With clever, blue eyes that shone sharply with thoughts he could see but not decipher. Like him, she had a very angular face, sculpted in shapes that should have seemed wrong but somehow, together, were stunning. Riding that line between gaunt and gorgeous, the sharp planes of her nose and cheeks, her brow and chin, were as alien as they were alluring.

Long, dark curls framed her face and flowed down her back and over her shoulders, caressing her body as she leaned against the counter.
Though he tried — so very hard — not to, his eyes kept drifting to her breasts that were now propped up on her forearms as she rested against the back of a chair. He wondered if she’d done that on purpose. If her arms, that encased and displayed, were a deliberate attempt to draw his gaze down. Judging by her knowing grin, he thought yes.

“Hayato,” she said, tilting her head as he handed her the drink concoction — some grab-bag of booze that he couldn’t have recreated to save his life, “right?”

He looked up a little sheepishly.

So she did know him.

He nodded, unsure if it was ruder to ask for her name now or pretend like he knew it. Not much for names, he didn’t normally pay much attention, if he could help it. He always figured that sort of thing tended to work itself out in the normal run of things, linking memory and importance in a completely organic way.

And, looking her over again — Hayato was almost sure — if he’d once known this girl’s name, he would have made a point of remembering it.

“Halloween is the best time of year, isn’t it?” the magician continued, leaning a bit more forward on the chair to reveal the deep vee of her cleavage.

Those pale, round breasts were beautiful, rising — just a bit — with every breath as they pushed against the tight fabric of her vest. He knew it was rude to stare but, try as he might, he couldn’t look at her without staring. “Sure,” he said on a deep swallow as he forced his gaze to focus on hers.

“There’s magic in the air this time of year,” she said breezily, even while studying him as if she could read his every thought, as if she could witch out exactly where his mind had drifted. “One night a year, we all get a chance to be someone else. To be something else.”

Hayato thought about that. About the magic in not being yourself.
Except he liked himself.

He was honors pre-law at the college of his choice. He’d been on the Dean’s List every semester. He was a National Merit Scholarship Winner, a National Collegiate Scholar, and the youngest member of an elite study group for law students.

He was on track. He’d been preparing for this, working his ass off, for as long as he could remember. Why would he want to give that up, even if just for one night?

“With a little makeup and a wig,” she mused, “you can step out of your life and into one of your own imagining. With just a wardrobe change, it’s like being given license to do all the things you normally wouldn’t. It’s like identity alchemy.”

Hayato nodded and shrugged, not really sure what to say. To be honest, Hayato hadn’t had all that much experience with girls outside a classroom. Mostly fumbled fits made in library reading nooks or someone’s dorm room bunk bed. And, while he’d certainly enjoyed himself and — God, he hoped — they’d enjoyed themselves, he wasn’t altogether certain he’d even know what to do with a girl like the magician, who was almost too pretty to look at, much less touch.
“You just can’t beat that,” she sighed almost wistfully.

Not that he was planning to touch her or anything. Hoping, sure. Fantasizing, oh yeah. But she’d only asked him to make her a drink. She was a sorority sorceress and he was an undergrad in a secondhand hat; he couldn’t even imagine what she would want with him beyond a little bartending.

He watched as she tipped the red solo cup back, draining the “Love Potion #9” in one long drink. Even over the party’s strange soundtrack of German punk rock, he heard the definitive crunch of the cup’s plastic as she all but slammed it back on the table. “I want to show you something,” she told him, her face a bit tight but determined. “Upstairs.”

He blinked. Upstairs? “What?” he asked blankly, sure he’d heard her wrong.

“Magic,” she told him, answering a question he hadn’t actually asked but was pretty sure he liked the answer to. “I want to show you some magic.”

Hayato had to blink for a moment, his brain adjusting to hearing the vaguely porno phrase outside the fantasy. It was weird. Even in the real world, the words sounded like fantasy. Scripted and a little stilted, she’d said them as if she didn’t really mean them.

He wondered what that meant.

Then she held out her hand to him, the gesture so much more convincing than the words.

His gaze swept over the long lengths of her legs, lifted and shaped by the tall heels on her feet, and up the swell of her slim hips. He swallowed hard at the way the tight vest clung to her waist, soft and sweetly curved, before framing — hugging — those breasts.

Meeting her pretty, blue eyes, he saw the briefest flicker in her gaze — a quick break in character. He reached out, that look making him take her hand. There was something so familiar in that look. An uncertainty that he knew well and wished she didn’t.

He watched that crack in her confidence close as her small hand gripped his, tugging him through the party crowd and up the stairs, and wondered why that would make him feel so much better.

Hayato swallowed hard as the scent of booze, sweat, and over-stimulation struck him. Seeking that surety again, he held tight to her hand and focused on the magician as she snaked her way through the space, sometimes seeming little more than an arm almost swallowed by the mob and a bouncing top hat.

They wove through congested hallways, squeezing tight to couples who’d congregated in and out and around the bedrooms. Some of the doors were wide open, revealing rooms overflowing with too many conversations and even more people. Some doors were shut, quiet dens — pockets of conspicuous silence — or muffled murmurs — music or moans — hidden behind the wood and walls.

They stopped in front of a door, shut and silent. Hayato held his breath as she turned the knob. Letting his hand go, she stepped into the room, flicking on the light. She turned, a dramatic, almost dance-like pivot, with her hands spread in ta-da as she took off her hat in one smooth motion. Standing just inside its entrance, she looked at him, left lingering in the hallway. “Come in.” It was almost a command with just a trace of question touching the performance.

He stepped into the room, the door shutting behind him. He gave a small laugh and shuffled a bit on her carpet as she reached into her hat. “Don’t tell me there’s a rabbit in there,” he said.

She pulled out a box of cards and waved them at him. “Much as I love a classic hat trick, pretty sure a bunny violates house rules,” she said as she sat down on one of the room’s beds.

“So you actually do magic?” he asked, a little impressed. He’d figured it was just a costume and a line.

“Of course,” she said, an obvious look on her face, as she gestured for him to join her on the crimson comforter covering her bed. “I told you, I’m a fan of magic.”

Hayato looked around what he assumed was her half of the room as he sat down. C.S. Lewis sat spine-bent and well-read next to Tolkien on her bedside. Tamora Pierce and Mercedes Lackey sat stacked on her shelves. Kelley Armstrong kept Kim Harrison company as their corners peeked out from under her bed. And strewn and stuck alongside all those were biographies of Houdini and David Copperfield and how-to books on classic illusions and close-up magic. They were everywhere, tucked away like treasures among her textbooks.

“So what are you going to do?” he asked, nodding to her as she shuffled the deck. “Do I pick a card, any card?”

“Mmm,” she said as she dealt out eight cards, four in front of him and four in front of her, “sort of.” With a flick of her hands, she shuffled the rest of the cards. “We’re going to play a game.”

A game? “Okay,” he said, even parts wary and intrigued. “What kind of game?”

She flipped the top card in the deck and flashed the eight of hearts. “Basic high card, low card,” she said. “Beat my card,” she said, flipping the next to reveal the jack of spades, “and I’ll take something off.”

He swallowed hard as his gaze shifted south. He liked those rules. “And if I don’t?” he asked.

“Then you do,” she answered simply.

That was a magic trick?

Looking at her, sitting cross-legged across from him, her soft thighs parted and her posture welcoming.

Yeah, maybe it was a kind of magic.

“Sure,” he agreed, shifting to mirror her position on the bed...

On Your Knees

ENOUGH

Never say “I love you” when you really mean “I’m sorry.”

I don’t stare at you. I deliberately don’t look at you, while you stomp around the apartment in dress-socked feet. As if you’re the one who’s been wronged. I scoff and shake my head.

Not only will you not have apologized when you know you’ve fucked up, but you’ll have tried to make me feel guilty for being too pissed off to say it back.

You yelled at me—took your awful, stressful week out on me—but I’m the heartless bitch who can’t say I love you back. I’m just one more thing in your life that won’t go right. Won’t cooperate. Won’t do and be and act the way you want me to.

My eye twitches when I hear you and your temper slam doors as you move through our home.

I love you.

You know I do.

But right now, I can’t stand to be in the same room as you.

I hear a loud crash, followed by a stream of swears.

Sighing, I shut my book and set it on the coffee table.

Enough is enough.

I stand up and walk toward the kitchen and your grumpy muttering. With each step, I take a calming breath, trying to let go of my own work stress as well as the added irritation that’s been building since you came home. It won’t help if both of us lose our cool.

I stand in the doorway.

You’re on the floor, still in your work clothes on your hands and knees, an assortment of kitchen utensils strewn on the tile around you.

What a mess.

I frown and adjust my t-shirt and sleep shorts before bending down to help.

“I’ve got this.”

My spine snaps straight at your sharp tone, each clipped word cutting. That hurt. “I was just trying to help.”

You grunt. “It’s my mess; I can clean it up myself.” You reach for a wooden spoon close to you. “I’m not completely incompetent.”

I raise my eyebrow. “I never said you were.”

“Sure.” The word sounds more like a scoff, a bark of sarcasm.

I shake my head and turn around. Whatever.

“I’ll just do it all by myself.” I can hear your heated grumble behind my back. “I’ll just do everything by myself.”

I whirl back to face you. “I try to help, you don’t want it. I let you handle it and you’re still not happy.” I throw up my arms. “What do you want?”

Gripping the spoon in your hand tight, your knuckles bulge as your fingers tense. I stiffen, thinking you’re going to yell again.

Instead, you sigh and hang your head, your shoulders hunched and your back bent. “I don’t know.” Scowling in frustration, you throw the spoon in the corner. “I just…” You look up at me, your gaze tired and overwhelmed. “I just want it all to stop.”

Your boss’s lack of appreciation.

Your coworkers’ counterproductive competition.

Your clients’ unreasonable demands.

Your nagging, know-it-all wife’s annoyingly articulate silences.

I wince. Yeah, I can understand that.

You want it all to stop?

I raise my eyebrow. I can do that.

I put my hands on my hips and square my feet, feeling my attitude—my persona and aura—change, a new one slipping over my body like a coat.

I feel my posture, my expression, my mindset shift. Very aware of my lips as they curl almost cruelly, I say, “You can do this?” I bend down, my lithe body feeling sly, and pick up the smooth ceramic utensil crock, feeling it heavy and purposeful in my hand. “Then do it.”

I can see it as my tone and stance register in your brain—in your blood—recognition surging quick through you. The corners of your frown lift and a small laugh touches your voice. “Now?”

I nod. Now. I tap my toe. “Do I need to repeat myself?”

Your back straightens even as your gaze drops. “No.”

Good.

I see you reach out your arm toward a spatula.

“Ah ah.”

You freeze, your body tense and eager to please.

I grin. “No hands,” I say and tap my lips thoughtfully. “And no feet.”

You pout, poor baby. I know you’ve had a hard day—a hard week—but I know what you need. You need a challenge you can accomplish and someone who believes, who knows, you can. You need to know that, whatever I ask you to do—whatever I do to you—not only can you handle it, but it’ll pay off in the end.

It’s an enticing promise that most people—most things—in this world can’t keep.

But I can.

I always do.

You bow your head and begin to crawl toward the spatula. I can’t quite see, but I imagine your cock lengthening behind the fly of your slacks. Leaning down, you open your mouth wide and bite the kitchen tool’s handle with your teeth.

I suppress a giggle as you turn your head this way and that, trying to get a good grip, your lips brushing against the tile.

Your hands fist behind your back in a tight twist of fingers to show how determined you are to follow my direction. To prove—to me, and to yourself—that you can.

You lift your head, a look of pride on your face. You smile around the spatula, a bit of a swagger in the swivel of your hips as you crawl on your knees toward me.

It should have been humiliating. Would have been, if it wasn’t you, wasn’t me. But this is what you need.

I know.

I need it too.

Even now, I know—in the mundane, everyday part of my brain—that I should feel bad, awful and guilty, listening to your knees squeak across the floor. But the clank of the spatula as you put it into the crock I hold out to you sounds melodic to my ear.

You look at me, your head tilted, almost like a puppy looking for attention. Or approval. I feel myself melt. For a moment, I see the weight of all your effort—to be everything for everyone, to push yourself further than you want to and possibly further than you should, to prove yourself to people, to a world, that can never completely accept you. Can never give you what they expect from you.

I want to be different.

I want to be worthy. Worth all that effort.

So I lean in and kiss your lips before I push you back down and nod to the rest of your mess.

Losing myself in the back and forth of your movement around the kitchen, I watch you turn from me only to inevitably come back as you—as we, together—bring the broken bits of your life back to order.

You’ve left the wooden spoon you tossed for last. I wonder if you did it on purpose. A subtle symbol or a hidden hint. The straw that broke you. The last challenge.

You bring it to me, held tight in your teeth.

I hold out the almost full crock.

But you simply sit there. On your knees. And look at me.

I can read your need in your eyes, a silent wish that screams.

I set the other utensils on the counter and hold my hand out to you. Bowing your head forward, you place the spoon in my palm. The spoon feel smooth, hard, and a little wet from your mouth. I curl my fingers around it.

You start to stand, but I stop you with a hand on your shoulder.

Not yet.

Turning you around, I grab the collar of your shirt in my fist. The cloth is crisp against my palm and I can feel the heat of your body under my grip.

As I lead you to the dining room table, even though the room’s carpet must feel nice on your battered knees after the harsh tile, I miss the audible slide of your slacks.

But, this close, I can see the strain of your erection against your zipper. I breathe deep, imagining I can smell your arousal, hot and male. “Pull out the chair for me,” I order, moving my hand between your shoulder blades and giving you a subtle push.

You do. Such a gentlemen. I sit and pat my lap.

This is always the hardest part for you. The ultimate act of submission. Before it, it all just feels like fantasy, like it’s not quite yet real.

After it…

You told me once that you don’t understand why, even after all this time, you still feel a flicker of fear right before a scene. Because, while you’re in it, you never feel safer than when you’re in my hands.

I watch those two truths war in your eyes while you kneel before me. Your chest rises and falls with deep breaths. Your skin is flushed and slightly slick with sweat at your temples and neck. I want to lick you there, smell and taste and touch your nerves, raw and ready.

I see it in your eyes, in the flex of your muscles and the lift of your spine, when your hunger wins. You swallow hard and come close. I sit impossibly still as you unbuckle your belt, undo your fly, and lay across my lap.

I smile. Good boy.

You know that this is my favorite part.

I grab the waistband of your pants, grabbing the elastic of your boxers as well, and pull them down, revealing the smooth, pale aspen skin of your ass. I scrunch up the tails of your shirt, eager to see more. I lick my lips at the strong surface of your arched back. You writhe a bit, trying to get comfortable on my thighs. Your cheeks tense and shake and I want to lean down and bite them.

Instead, I grip the spoon in my hand and trail it from your neck, along your spine, and down that delicious ass. “Are you ready?” I ask.

You nod, just a tiny shake of your head against my leg. But your voice is clear and excited when you say, “I’m ready.” You plant your hands and feet.

I can feel how ready you are, your cock hard against my lap. Stroking your ass, I feel the firm muscles under a soft layer of sweet flesh. You settle into my hold, relaxing into my attention.

I pull my hand back and slap it across your ass. Not hard. My fingers just a stinging snap against your skin. Just to wake up your nerves.

You jump, shock more than pain making the movement sharp. I fight the urge to giggle, knowing that—vulnerable as you are—you won’t hear it as the sound of affection, not mocking, that I mean it as.

Instead, I smack your ass again, appreciating the bloom of color my palm leaves behind. I hit you again. And again. And again. Until your flesh warms under mine. I strain to hear the hitch of your breath just before each strike. I imagine I can feel your heartbeat speed as your body stiffens and squirms against me.

“More?” I ask, touching the spoon to your reddened skin.

“Yes.” You push your ass higher, pressing into the wood. “Please.”

Well, you did say, please.

The spoon thwacks when it connects with your flesh, leaving a perfect, red semi-circular oval beside your hip. You grunt and flex against me while I stare. The sight of it causes gleeful delight to swell up within me. My mark. On you.

Tonight and tomorrow, you’ll feel that spot keenly, memories flooding at every tender touch. You’ll likely wear that mark for the next few days. Maybe even a week.

My grip on the spoon tightens before I strike again. On your left cheek. Then the right. By the crack of your ass. Under the swell before butt becomes thigh. Each time, you writhe with me, moving into and away from the spoon's harsh attention in a perfectly untimed rhythm. You groan and grunt, the sound sweet accompaniment. And I can’t get enough of it. Each blush of your skin, each furious flush, makes me want more. Wants to paint the canvas of your flesh with my touch.

My mind floods with the idea that, for days, every time I see you—naked, clothed, it doesn’t matter—I’ll know they’re there. Those marks—my marks—warm beneath my fingers. Hidden beneath slacks. They’ll be there when you lie beside me at night and when you go to work in the morning. I’ll have left something of me on you.

If before I wanted to bite you, now I want to consume you. And be consumed by you. I want our touch to tattoo onto each other. To sear us together with our heat and sweat. I want it to brand and bind us.

I reach down and lift your chin, wanting to taste you. I need to. I feel you slide off my lap, your hands gripping my thighs as you stretch up to meet my mouth. Our lips meet and your taste and scent overwhelm me. I slip my hand from your chin to your neck, twisting the strands at the nape in my fist. I pull you close, nipping at your lips, sucking your tongue, and making you take my own.

Your hands grab my knees, pushing them apart to make a space for you between them. God, you’re so hot against the sensitive skin of my thighs.

Your hands, made clumsy by need, paw at the hem of my shorts, trying to shove them down.

I lift my hips with a laugh to help. You pull the shorts down off my legs while I tug you by your hair. Down. Down. You go willingly, eagerly, but there is something thrilling about the movement, the rough, wordless command, before your mouth closes over my cunt.

You lap at the lips, tickling the sensitive skin with your clever tongue. I moan when that tongue probes deeper to find me already wet. I imagine my taste, thick and heady, flooding your senses. You lick up, reveling in the liquid heat. Your hands grip my thighs, spreading them, as you push yourself closer to lavish attention on my hungry clit.

I throw my head back and bite my lip, a groan growling in the back of my throat. My hips thrust up, undulating into you. I can feel my orgasm climb, but not quite peak. “Fingers,” I say, my hard voice clipped with desire, “now.” Please.

I hear—feel—you chuckle against me, enjoying how tense and taut my body has become at your touch. Enjoying the table’s turn.

I’d be annoyed, except the slide of your fingers deep within me, filling me, feels so good. “Fast,” I tell you, tightening my hold on your hair as if it were a leash or reins, “and hard.” I need it.

I need you.

Your fingers fuck me—there is no other word for it—driving into me with a speed and intensity that rocks me. My leg lifts a bit, my left foot arching against the sensation so pleasurable it’s almost pain. Almost. Almost.

Then you suck my clit—hard, your tongue and teeth relentless—and my world bursts into light before plunging my brain into a climactic blank. My sightless eyes open wide and my throat chokes on a gasp. I feel my body shake stiffly. The seismic spasms, that seem to seize my senses, show only as tremoring shivers along my spine. My back arches against the feeling, spreading it along each vertebra before it tingles electric along every nerve.

It should tire me out, wear on and drain me.

Instead, I feel fueled. Invigorated.

Voracious.

I slink off the chair to join you on the floor. Pulling you close, I seal my lips to yours. My taste buzzes between us. Shoving against your shoulders, I push you down onto the carpet, before lowering my body onto yours. I deftly unbutton your shirt, needing to have more of you revealed—exposed—for me. Stroking your chest, I feel your nipples hard against my fingers and palms. I trail my hand down until I grasp your sex, laying hard and long on your belly. I squeeze. You gasp.

With a grin, I sidle over your hips, my thighs straddling you. My hot, wet flesh brushes against your dick still cradled in my fist. “What do you want?” I ask. I want the words. I want to feel the power, the base and raw pull, of them pouring out of your mouth and filling the room. Filling me.

“I want to come inside you.”

I shiver at the words. You’re my first fluid-bonded partner. It shouldn’t matter. It never did before.

But it does.

The trust of it. The aching vulnerability. Of literally letting someone inside of you. No barriers. No safety net. And leaving, in a flow of heat and lust, a bit of you inside of them. Inside of me.

I swallow hard and lower myself onto you.

You lift up on your elbows to watch as I do, as each inch sinks deep.

I watch you, the flush of your cheeks and the puff of your heaving chest. Your eyes darken, taking everything in. Your tongue slips out and slicks your lips, making you look ravenous.

I lean down and begin to ride you, my chest hovering over your face. With a growl, you grab my shirt and thrust it up, freeing my breasts to your mouth. Every time I surge over you, your lips draw me in, only to pull when I buck back. I feel caught, captive between the rioting sensations of your mouth and your cock.

Even through it, I can see your body writhe. Your nails dig into the shag, trying to hold on, to find some sense of control. Heavy breaths and tiny whimpers escape your lips. I watch you fight off your climax.

It makes me want it more.

Even though my thighs burn and waves of my own orgasm threaten to break, I push you further. Faster. Harder. I clench the muscles deep within, my pussy hugging your long, hard dick. I lean down and suck your bottom lip hard between my teeth.

You come, filling my body while you moan into my mouth. I want to roar. To cheer. But the force of your orgasm rocks your body, pulsing along—pulsing inside—my own, triggering my own climax. Not the same mind-blowing pleasure as before. But something sweeter. Deeper. Because it’s something shared.

I shiver before I let my weight settle over yours. I close my eyes and feel your arms wrap around my waist, holding me close. I feel your lips feather kisses over my temple, my cheek, my chin. Lazily, I turn my head to smack my lips over yours.

“Thank you,” you tell me. You let out a deep sigh. “I needed that.”

Yes, you needed a break. A space where time—the world, life—stops. A scene where you get to step out of yourself and away from the baggage that normally weighs down.

Don’t we all sometimes?

“You’re very welcome.” I stretch a bit, feeling you slip flaccid and slick out of me. “I know things have been hard for you lately.”

“That’s not an excuse,” you say, shaking your head. “I shouldn’t take it out on you.” You hold your breath and squeeze me tight. You sigh. “I’m sorry.”

I let out my own breath. I didn’t even know I’d been holding it in. Something sharp settles within me, only really noticeable now that the pain is gone. “I know.” I press my lips to yours, lingering as our sweat-slicked bodies stick together. “I love you.”

PRIDE & Punishment

PRIDE & Punishment

God, Cora Jameson tasted good. Like the sweet, spicy ginger candies she loved so much. That, mixed with the heat of her mouth, was intoxicating.

Pip Jones pushed their protest signs to the floor, hearing the poster board and plastic handles hit the floor with a clatter, before she hopped up on the table. Leaning down to bite Cora’s bottom lip, Pip wrapped her long, pecan-colored legs around the Cora’s bared, aspen-shaded waist. Pip smiled against the shorter woman 's lips when Cora’s hands moved higher up her thighs, lifting her skirt with them.

“Rainbow panties?” Cora laughed and brushed her finger against the brightly colored satin.

Pip shrugged and arched into the touch. “Well, it is PRIDE.” Her breath hitched when Cora's finger dipped beneath her panties' elastic hem. “The most wonderful time of the year.”

“Not so much this year.”

Pip straightened a bit at Cora’s bitter tone. Not that she blamed her. Not when, earlier this month, just in time for PRIDE, President Rosen announced his plans to strengthen religious freedom laws. At the expense of women, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community. Laws that, under the guise of protecting people of faith, sought to strip people of their civil liberties, their freedom, their homes, their healthcare, and their dignity. Pip, as a black, bisexual woman, understood that bitterness and the beaten down look in Cora’s eyes all too well.

It was why she’d come here, with her walking shoes on and her protest sign in hand, at eight in the morning—an ungodly hour on the Sunday of PRIDE weekend—still sore and weary and a bit hung over from Saturday night’s festivities, to the parking lot of her local CLPA, Civil Liberties Protection Association, to protest the present administration and to protect something no one should ever have to: her right to be.

She’d never been a particularly political person. Sure, she’d grip and debate about the state of the world on occasion before, but her world felt different now, since Rosen took the White House. On the campaign trail, he’d sworn to “Make America Rise Again,” bringing it back to a decade where people who looked like her were seen as different. As less than. Watching the president’s announcement on her phone that morning, on her way home from work, had made her feel so alone. So isolated and almost attacked by her own country. By her home.

It wasn’t right.

Even last night, thrashing and losing herself at the dance clubs with Harlan and Max, it’d felt different this year. Instead of a joyous celebration of community and progress, every movement and note had felt like a burst of emotion. A mad mix of rage, hurt, and defiance. She’d made sure each swing of her hips and shimmy of her breasts were a writhing, grinding middle finger to Rosen and his conservative cronies. Even surrounded by the thick throng of sweaty, swaying bodies filling the club, even while she’d danced with her friends in the deafening dark, Pip had felt hotly rebellious but still alone. It’d reminded her too much of her younger days in high school and college, proud in her heart of who she knew herself to be but stuck in the shadows of the closet.

But, this morning, from the moment she’d parked—three blocks away from the site because she couldn’t find any available spaces closer—something had changed. Looking around in the early sun’s light, Pip has seen pink pussy hats, homemade signs, and rainbow flags and prints everywhere she went. As she’d walked closer to the march meet-up, she couldn’t help but smile.

She’d been surrounded by strangers united by the same defiant desire for dignity. Those like her who refused to have their humanity had been denied gathered in one spot.

It’d felt like coming home again.

The sudden feeling of inclusion and welcome had washed over her, overwhelming her. She’d felt like smiling and crying at the same time. It hadn’t taken long before she spotted familiar faces—friends and lovers from her queer and kinky spaces—in the crowd. Max and Danielle, the kink community organizers were out with bullhorns leading the crowd in protest chants. Elin and Kat were selling PRIDE merchandise—beads and bandanas and tote bags—at the CLPA tables. Even Rand, a cop who’d always been so careful to keep his personal and professional life separate, had a rainbow hanky tucked into the back pocket of his jeans while he talked to the march’s uniform officers on duty.

And then there was Cora. Beautiful in her intricately tied rope crop top, a swirl and twist of color twining around and binding her breasts, offering peeks and teases of tattoos along her body. Pip hadn’t been able to take her eyes off Cora as they marched together, hoisting their signs and chanting in unison. It’d been so hard to wait until the march at least started to die down a bit before dragging Cora off to an abandoned storage room in a nearby parking garage.

But, now, that Pip had her here, she was not going to let that sense of bitter isolation creep back in.

No. PRIDE was about community. About connection. She wasn’t going to let anyone take that away from her.

So, she tucked her fingertips between the ropes of Cora’s top and tugged the woman closer. “Well, you were well on your way to making my PRIDE pretty damned wonderful.”

Cora let out a breathy laugh, heat rising again in her eyes. “Oh yeah?”

Pip nodded her head. “Uh-huh. Wanna keep going?”

Cora tilted her head thoughtfully. “I don’t know if you’ve earned it.”

Pip snorted. “Says Miss Strolled in at Noon. I’ve been here, marching my butt off, since eight!”

“Marching your butt off, huh?” Cora arched her eyebrow.

Pip barely had time to gasp before Cora gripped her by the waist, tugging her off the table. But her finger tangled in one of the colorful CPLA necklaces draping down Cora’s chest, causing the string of plastic beads to break while Cora flipped her so she was bent over, belly-down ass-up.

Cora tsked. “Look what you’ve done.” She bent down and retrieved the beads. “Each of these cost me a dollar.”

“I’m sorry.” Except Pip wasn’t sure she was. Not while Cora trailed the beads over the patch of skin revealed between the hem of her shirt and the band of her skirt. Besides, Cora had, like, ten of them around her neck.

“You should be.” Cora sighed disappointedly as she let the long string of beads to pool in a cool coil against that heated bit of flesh. “Breaking things and lying to me.”

“When did I lie?”

“Right here.” Cora tugged the band of Pip’s skirt until both it and her rainbow panties slid over the toned cheeks of her ass. “You told me that you’d marched your butt off.” Cora murmured low as she caressed Pip’s ass. “Looks like your butt’s doing just fine.” She pinched one cheek and chuckled. “Better than fine.”

Pip giggled and wriggled her ass a bit beneath Cora’s touch. “Better make sure.”

“I think I’d better.” She trailed her fingers over Pip’s back, tapping her fingers gently over the long column of her spine. “The question is how.” She let out a wicked laugh that had Pip craning her back and neck to see what the other woman was up to. Cora reached around her neck and took off the beads still hanging there. She gathered the ends in her hand, letting the strings flow out one side, before she struck her forearm with the makeshift flogger.

Pip pushed up onto her hands. “You can’t be serious.”

“You know me.” Cora’s grin widened toothily while she caught the beads now sliding down Pip’s butt. “This is my serious face.”

Yes, it was. Pip’s pulse raced at the determined expression on her face and the playful light in her eyes. God, yes. “But not too hard though.” Even plastic beads could leave welts, if swung hard enough, and Pip didn’t really want to deal with the hassle of marks at the start of swimsuit season.

“Understood.” Cora nodded. “But first,” she said, setting aside her beads, “we need to tie you up.”

Of course. Pip snorted at the incorrigible rope top. “Well, it’s not as if you don’t have enough rope.”

“Psh.” Cora waved her hand toward her breasts. “Do you have any idea how long it took me to do this? There’s a reason I didn’t show up until noon.”

She shook her head. “No, we can do better than that.” Then she reached for the collar Pip had around her throat. “Perfect!”

Pip rolled her eyes. “Beads for a flogger, a collar for cuffs. You’re practically kinky fairy godmother.”

Cora smirked and nodded, grabbing Pip’s wrist in one hand at the small of her back.  “Except, in this case, my wish is your command.”

Pip snickered until she felt Cora’s grip falter. She looked back again, wondering at the hesitant look on the woman’s face. “What's wrong?”

———

Cora sighed and rolled her shoulders uncomfortably. She had no idea how to explain why this suddenly felt wrong. But, looking at Pip’s beautiful, soft, clove-shaded wrists held tight in her own pale, tapioca white hands...it all just felt tainted.

“Cora?”

Cora released Pip and stepped back. “It's nothing.”

Pip tugged her skirt and panties back on. “Sure seems like something.” She crossed her arms over her chest. “So let’s talk about it.”

Cora winced. “It sounds dumb.”

“Tell me anyway.”

Cora bit her lip. “It just doesn’t feel right, right now.”

“What doesn’t?”

“This. Us.” She shook her head when Pip’s eyes widened with hurt. She wasn’t explaining this well. “I mean, with the president running around telling the country that they should be afraid and suspicious of people of color and immigrants and our attorney general calling for harsher crackdowns on his own brand of law and order while protecting cops who take a shoot-first attitude toward…”

Pip cringed and sighed. “People who look like me.” She shook her head. “What does that have to do with anything?”

She told Pip it sounded stupid. “It’s just…” She grunted frustratedly. “With all that, how can I…” She clenched the collar in her hands. “Much less…” She waved her hand toward—Jesus—the flogger. Cora closed her eyes and buried her head in her hands. How culturally insensitive could she be right now? What what she thinking?

Pip touched Cora’s shoulder. “We’ve played together before and you never seemed bothered by it then?”

She knew that. But, instead of being comforting, it made her feel worse. “Things are different now.” For God’s sake, they were at a march fighting for their right to be themselves. To love who they wanted to love. To live how they wanted to live. To be treated with the same respect everyone else in this world got to have.

They shouldn’t have to do this.

In the face of all that, how did they do this? “It didn’t used to be like this.” Sex. Play. With all this tension in at the forefront, how could Cora play act some sexy, kinky game—however unintentionally—at the injustices rearing its ugly head in the worst ways? “All I can see is me, this white woman, doing this to you…”

“A black woman.” Pip smiled. “Well, I don’t know about you, but I was just as black the last time we played.”

She knew that too. “But it feels different now.” She couldn’t look at the world today and not see it all differently now.

Pip reached for Cora’s hand, her collar pressed between their palms. “Even if this is what I want.” She leaned down and kissed Cora, touching her hand to tip up the other woman’s chin. “If you’re what I want.”

Cora sighed and kissed her back. God, she wanted Pip too. She just didn’t know, with the weight of the world around them, how to want her. She pulled away slightly, just to rest her head against Pip’s shoulder. “Tell me what you want.” Tell me how to do this.

Pip cupped the back of her head, running her hand through Cora’s short brown hair. “You’re right. The world is crap right now.” She turned Cora’s face to look into her eyes. “And, to be honest, it’s always been crap; we’re just seeing it more clearly now.” She wrapped her arms around Cora and squeezed. “But, right now, I want to stop thinking about it. I want you to stop the world, if just for a moment.” She kissed Cora again, longer, sweeter. Against her lips, Pip murmured low, “I want you to tie me up and spank my ass until the world disappears and all I can think about is you and what you make me feel.”

A small laugh slipped past Cora’s lips. She could do that. If that was what Pip wanted, she could do that. Cora caressed Pip’s cheek before pulling her in for a kiss. She moaned and licked her lips, smiling when Pip opened her mouth, welcoming Cora’s tongue. Cora wanted little more than to melt into that kiss.

So she did.

For a moment.

A long, amazing moment.

Then she held Pip at arms-length. Pip arched a curious eyebrow at her, but Cora just smiled and narrowed her gaze. She tilted her chin down, but pointed an intimidating look up at Pip—a short girl’s trick that came in exceedingly handy as a top. Her chest swelled with pride when she saw Pip’s eyes widen and her breath catch. Pip did so love a strong-handed woman. Cora held out her hand and in an uncompromising tone, she said, “Wrists.”

Pip grinned and her eyes were alight with anticipation. She held out her hands, wrists together and palms up. The gesture was so trusting, so inviting, and so very, very promising, Cora felt her heart rate race and her body heat. She leaned down and pressed her lips to each wrist before twisting the collar tight around them both. Truth be told, it wasn’t a good hold. All Pip had to do was twist her wrists to slip free. In fact, she would likely have to be careful how she struggled against the binding to be sure she didn’t break free from it too easily.

But Cora was working with what she had and it would have to do. “Is this okay?”

Cora held her breath and watched Pip swivel her wrists, testing the tie to find out what, given the constraints, what she could and couldn’t do. Cora let out a relieved sigh when Pip shifted her wrists, consciously causing the leather to twist and trap, before she looked back up at Cora.

I want this. The thought was so clear in Pip’s eyes. I want you.

Cora reached for the discarded beads again. “Turn around.”

Pip turned, tugging her skirt and panties down so they fell to her feet, and Cora’s body tensed in guilty arousal. She looked down at the vulnerable position Pip was in, back bent, feet spread wide. Pip was bared before her, open and giving. Her fist tightened around the makeshift beaded flogger, feeling the plastic bite into her flesh.

God help her, Cora did find that shift of power, the sweet sign of submission in Pip’s stance and the rush of dominance coursing through herself, so fucking hot, but it wasn’t about race. Sure, Cora couldn’t lie, it was in part about Pip’s gorgeous body bent over, her smooth, dark skin stretched taut over the curves of her hips as she gave a playful, excited wiggle of her ass. But, when Cora gazed at Pip, she didn’t see politics. She saw Pip. Her play partner. It wasn’t that the inevitable cultural baggage between them didn’t exist—of course, it did and there wasn’t anything either of them could do to change that. But they were so much more than just that.

They had their relationship, this incredible mix of friendship and attraction. And, for Cora, there was a kind of power in looking at centuries of heavy history and division and, while not denying the effect it had on them and what they were to each other, knowing it did not have to define them.

I want you to stop the world, if just for a moment.

Cora wasn’t sure she could actually do that. But, for Pip, she wanted to try.

So she tightened her grip on the beads and struck her forearm again, to both build Pip’s tension—letting her hear the sharp lash—and to remind herself how hard to strike to hurt, but not harm. After all, this was about pleasure as much as it was about pain. It was about reaching a level of pleasure one could only experience through pain.

Cora smiled at the way Pip’s thighs flexed for a moment in anticipation. Cora placed a grounding hand on the small of Pip’s back, helping to ease her. She instantly felt the woman’s body relax under her touch. “Ready?”

Pip nodded. “Yes.”

Good. Cora pulled the beads taut between her hands and aimed, before letting them hit firmly, but not hard. She made sure the beaded tails connected in a group along the side of her hip with an almost tender thud, dulling the ends’ sting on the fleshiest part of her behind. Cora was pleased when Pip’s ass gave a shocked little bounce before pushing out again as if seeking another strike.

So Cora gave her one before asking, “Harder or softer?” She knew the answer, had learned it during all their past play and could read it now in the way Pip squirmed, but she wanted to hear her say it.

“Harder.” Pip’s voice was low and throaty with need. “Please.”

Cora grinned. Good. She pulled her toy back again and hit the same spot but with a bit more force. The skin bloomed a dark rose beneath Pip’s pecan skin. Cora let her hand slid down to caress the reddened flesh, both thrilling at the heat there as well as soothing the sting. Then her hand returned to the base of Pip’s back. “Harder or softer?”

Pip arched her back, defiantly ready. “Harder.”

All right. This time, she changed the angle this time, striking the center of her ass so the sensation spread along both cheeks. It wasn't that she'd swung any harder, rather Cora made certain her strike would be more keenly felt. Cora wanted to whoop at Pip’s breathy gasp that swiftly turned into a moan. “Careful,” she warned, nodding to the small room’s window that was opened just a crack, “don’t want anyone to know what we’re doing in here, do we?”

Pip bit her lip and swallowed the sounds of her pleasure, but Cora had a better idea. Through the window, she could still hear the small, but resilient crowd chanting. “No hate, no fear. Everyone is welcome here. No hate, no fear…” She felt a wave of pride that, even this far away, the sounds of the march could still be heard. She leaned down and stroked Pip back and whispered against her heated flesh, “No hate, no fear…”

She grinned when Pip responded softly, but gamely with the rest of the chant. “…Everyone is welcome here.”

With that, Cora stood tall and took aim. “No hate, no fear…” She struck.

After a sharp intake of breath, Pip replied a little louder, “Everyone is welcome here.”

Good. Cora changed her style again, this time gathering the flogger’s tails more loosely, allowing them to strike Pip’s ass in a wider burst so those ends snapped her skin with more sting, causing Pip to squeal out the end of her chant. Cora paused and let Pip catch her breath, stoking Pip’s behind, while the protesters outside switched chants.

Cora thought a change of pace did sound nice. So she set aside the beads and reached down for her sign.

“Aww,” Pip sighed sadly when Cora tore the plastic stick from her sign, “I really liked your sign. Why would you ruin it?”

Cora looked down at the now ripped poster board reading, “Love is love is love is love” in large, bubbly, colorful letters. She just shrugged. “The march is almost over anyway.”

Pip shrugged. “It’s not as if there won’t be more marches.”

Cora wrinkled her nose. Yeah, that was true. Given the state of the world, this was not their last protest. She leaned down and kissed the base of Pip’s back. “We can make new ones together next time, okay?” For right now, Cora paused to listen to the marchers still going strong below. She aimed the stick, bringing it close to Pip butt only to draw it back again. “When civil rights are under attack, what do we do?” She snapped the stick against the sweet spot of Pip ass, just under the delectable curves where her thighs meet her behind.

Pip jerked against the table and threw back her head, joining in with the new chant, “Rise up, fight back!”

“What do we do?” Cora cracked the stick again.

“Rise up, fight back!”

Fuck, yeah. Cora swung again and again, keeping time with the protest cries like a lust-fueled drum beat. Cora stared at the fading, almost rope-like marks left by the beaded flogger and the darker red crisscross of the stick’s strikes. She sank into the rhythm of their combined voices—yes, she and Pip, but also the crowd outside—making the intimate scene in this storage room feel somehow larger, connected to something more meaningful in both the wider world as well as within.

It was too good, the sight and sound of Pip pleasure. She dropped the stick to the ground to cup Pip ass in her hands, feeling her heated blush against her palms as Pip pushed into her touch. Cora closed her eyes and focused on the needy sounds that dripped between Pip now breathy words, feeding the need building within Cora too. Cora squeezed Pip’s flushed flesh. “More?”

Pip groaned. “God, yes.”

“What do you need?”

“You.” She swallowed hard. “Inside me. Now.”

Cora made a low, satisfied sound when she reached between Pip’s thighs and felt the woman’s wetness, thick and silky. She dipped her fingertips into Pip’s liquid heat just deep enough to tease, to tempt. Pip gave a longing moan as Cora pulled her fingers back.

Poor Pip, she would have to be patient. Cora had every intention of sinking her fingers deep within her. But she wasn't quite done playing yet. Sliding between her slick lips, Cora found Pip’s eager clit. She rubbed the ready flesh, loving how Pip’s hips would grind in time to her touch. Her voice sounded harsh and husky, hoarse and raw from all her earlier, impassioned cries. Cora could hear Pip’s pleasure peek with each guttural grunt and groan. Could feel it in the flood of heat flowing onto her palm. She was almost there. So close to the edge. All she needed was a push.

So Cora did, plunging her fingers deep within her, even as her other hand continued to caress her clit. Curling her fingers, she thrust in and out of her at an insistent pace. She bit her lip and reveled in the tight clench of Pip’s wet pussy as their flesh gripped and slipped together. Her movements and moans turned frantic as Pip raced toward release.

Then her body tensed against Cora’s on a sharp inhale. Keeping her fingers still inside her, marveling in the snug seize and slack of Pip’s orgasm, Cora wrapped her other arm around the woman's waist, holding her up while Pip’s knees buckled.

They stayed like that for a long moment, with Pip lost in sensation while Cora stood strong and in awe with this amazing woman in her arms. Slowly and a little reluctantly, she slipped her fingers from Pip so she could pull her tight against her, wishing this moment would last forever.

———

Pip sighed as she slid, blissfully boneless, in Cora’s embrace until she sunk her pleasure-lost weight onto the cool cloth of her skirt and panties that still sat pooled at Cora’s feet. She took deep, shaky breaths and rested the back of her head against Cora’s soft, bared belly while the world came back to her. “Thank you.” The words sounded distant and weak, even to her own ears, but she felt them echo, so sincere, in her soul. “Thank you.”

With her wrists still bound, Pip turned and struggled to face Cora on the floor, resting against the leg of the table. Looking up, Pip met Cora’s gaze, seeing an intoxicating swirl of heat and tenderness there. Pip smiled before reaching out with both hands to tug at the band of Cora’s shorts, pulling her closer. She undid the buttons, tugged on the zipper, then slowly, inch by inch, peeled the fabric down Cora’s body.

Spreading Cora’s legs, Pip pressed nipping kisses all along her partner’s thighs. Pip leaned in and, while the tremors of her climax still throbbed between her legs, inhaled the scent of aroused woman. Fuck. Her mouth watered. Hungry, she nuzzled the curls Cora’s mound. “How should I thank you?”

Cora’s eyes fluttered and her hand rested on Pip’s shoulder. “Why don’t you tell me?”

Pip peeked her tongue out to tease Cora’s pink flesh. “Why don’t I show you?” She flicked her tongue over Cora’s clit, making her gasp and tighten her grip on her shoulder, before Pip closed her mouth over that needy nub. She suckled and licked that slick silken skin, Cora’s taste and scent overwhelming. Wanting more of her, Pip reached up and slipped her fingers inside Cora’s core.

Pip could hear Cora moan as she rode Pip’s fingers, pumping Pip deeper within her and tasting sweeter, hotter. “Faster.” Her nails dug into Pip’s shoulder. “More.” Pip felt Cora’s knees begin to weaken, but still she sucked. “Please.”

Pip twisted her wrists and freed her hands, just as Cora’s back arched and her head fell back. Cora cried out, her pleasure a burst of sound covered only by the crowd outside still chanting. “Love, not hate, makes America great. Love, not hate...”

Pip caught her as Cora’s knees gave way and she fell into Pip’s waiting arms. With her mouth still sticky with Cora, she kissed up along Cora’s arm, her shoulder, her neck, then her lips.

“Dear God.” Cora’s weight was welcoming and warm against Pip’s and Cora’s breath was hot against her neck. “Thank you.”

Pip kissed Cora’s temple, the rebellious yet rejoicing sound of love and freedom streaming through the window and filling the small room. Pip sighed, leaning against the table again, and pulled Cora close. “You’re very welcome.”
